EXAMINATIONS...NOT A JUDGE OF YOUR POTENTS AND CAPABILITIES!!!

I remember a very funny incident…

We had arrived early to the cinema hall to watch a Tamil movie. We were just about to enter the hall when we saw the horror-struck people of a newly released horror movie were coming past our queue. Amused as I was, I had enquired a lady, maybe in her mid-twenties, about the movie. She described that it was about a family of ghosts haunting an old mansion, and the inhabitants, with an expression that suggested that she let her imagination soar too much and that the ghosts actually zoomed from the 2-D world of the screen into the 3-D world of we humans, and tried to throttle her. I am not exactly very interested in horror movies, so I bid that lady a nice evening and proceeded to our film.
The following week saw my performance in NTSE scholarship examination. We had to write our examination in another institution where I could meet up with many other students from other institutions. I did socialize, quite only upto an extent, owing to my fancy for solitaire. After the examination, I stepped out to see many faces of students having the same expression on the face like that lady I met, only, a little more tenser than the original.
Now I am not looking down upon those students as I myself bore such an expression, though not so tense, but yes, somewhere like that kind of dazed, confused, scared, flabbergasted and literally defeated look. Even now, I am amazed at that immediate functioning of our nerves and response-to-stimuli organs that we ourselves assume that expression!!! What started off as a mere statistical analysis and manipulation of a student’s academic performance just to tell the student what lacks and what strengths the student possesses has now become a future-altering terrorizing scandalizing and heart-breaking melodramatic horror story which squeezes your intestines, agitates the butterflies in your tummy, activates the sympathetic and parasympathetic nerves, sends your blood pressure soaring, etc etc etc. but the funny part here is that whatever we do, however we feel, whoever sets it, or whoever you may be, it is STILL a test.
Examinations are ONLY simple tests which check your grasping ability and what you need to improve. It’s a passion for quite a few people but for many else, it’s the experience of entering a dimly lit room in which there is a blood-thirsty unleashed monster which hasn’t been fed on time. It may look hilarious but unfortunately, the caricature I described now is very true…again I repeat, examinations are only tests to understand where you lack. They are NOT something that decides your fates. What we take it in is what we see it as.
Now we can check our speed at Math, our talent of assumption at Physics, our analyzing smartness at Chemistry, our philosophy at English, and even our patriotism in History, but we cannot discover our true potent via tests. We cannot check our outspokenness, our attitude, our self-confidence, our ambitiousness, or even our style in written tests. In all, only half our personality and character is shown in tests, nothing more. Life’s a long journey full of hurdles and depressions. Now what you find in your path is what your academics teaches you, with what attitude and confidence you approach those many obstacles is what you acquire…on your own and with no one’s help. Your academics teach you the many principles of life; you develop how to implement them…its like people teach you how to write, but you are the one who decides later on what you write.
We needn’t shudder at the thought of facing the exams. In my opinion, it’s just another one of those worksheets which our primary teachers used to give us to learn what we should do to improve those weak areas. It is, in fact, a passion I have developed through time, like how I outgrew crying when I realized how nice school was…
We have abilities we don’t even dream of. We need more than realization for this. We need visualization as well. We need confidence and we need mental-power. Don’t tag yourselves a loser with your marks. People who haven’t even studied at all excel in their professions. Writing examinations is a knack of knowing what to write when where and how. What you need is the mind to understand, the will to succeed, the thirst for knowledge, and the courage to face anything that comes by your way. God will take care of the rest. Have hope, have faith in yourself and the Almighty above, and in no time will you realize that the Almighty whose abode, which we perceive has been in the skies, was actually in your heart, and it is YOU who make your luck and none other but you who has all the potentials… don’t let examinations judge you!!! You should realize that the tests are only long sheets of 2-D paper, but not 3-D ghosts like what the people of the horror-film, I described above, thought!!!

mind you dear readers, i have only publicised MY opinions and views to this topic, and i could have written about many other things, but i chose to write this because i felt, with today's trend, this was most important than what i did in my summer holidays...[=)]
